I’m not really sure what type of artist I am momentarily, I just kind of do whatever I feel like. I have kind of a weird style and I like to do my own thing. I think modern and pop-art are really cool. I get a lot of inspiration from songs, which sounds cliché but I guess I take things into a different context and translate it into something that gives meaning to me. I like art that doesn’t have any particular reasoning, I like being able to get my own meaning out of a piece, sometimes there isn’t one, but that’s the point. My favorite artist is Tomer Hanuka, he’s an Isreali immigrant, and he draws really cool comics. He’s done a lot of political things also, and magazine and CD covers for Aesop Rock. That’s how I found out about him was from Aesop’s CD Bazooka Tooth that was done by Tomer Hanuka. Him and his twin brother have done a book called Bipolar, and it’s just filled with really interesting pictures that somehow wouldn’t mix together in any other way without being totally insane.
So my piece “Love Me Dead” was from the song by Ludo. It just got stuck in my head and that’s kind of what I think about when I hear it, was someone’s heart about to explode. I took it and made it into a literal sense and drew a heart that was interlaced with a grenade, so instead of a standard heart shape I decided to draw an anatomical one because it would be more of a challenge, and it was, but I think it turned out better because of it. I decided to put the grenade as the ‘weapon of choice’ because it fit in better with the whole piece and seemed to make more sense than anything else, but honestly that’s just the first thing that comes to mind when I think of those words. This was my first piece in mostly pencil, I usually draw in pen or marker. After I was done with the actual art I threw some ink everywhere, which was a good edition because it was a little empty before. The measurements are 16x22.
