· Students will create a piece representing texture through the use of contrasting patterns draw from observation - make several figure studies

· explore pattern and color in creating an abstracted figure composition
Media: inks, acrylics, watercolors/pencils, fine-tip sharpies
Vellum/Bristol board
Vocabulary: repeat, combine, disguise, mythologize, pattern,
motif, space, shape, texture, symbols.
Exercises: make up 10 different patterns using, ink, markers,
Watercolors/pencils, & acrylics.
Practice drawing the figure from a manequin and from life. Consider keeping the following three simple concepts in mind as you are learning to draw the body.
- Look at the whole body and the relationships between the parts instead of focusing on the small details.
- Begin with a rough sketch of the overall "gesture" or first impression.
- Observe and draw the areas of shadow and light to create a solid, weighty figure.
