today I read the chapter on form, which was one of the more complicated chapters. What I gathered as the primary lesson is that shape is the essence of form. for sculptors form is much more attainable because they are actually making 3dimensional works of art. For 2D design on the other hand, form must be made by using different types of shading. Light sources are what gives otherwise flat shapes a three dimensional look. If one was to do a portrait, you could ad a light source aimed at the side of the face to show a better contour and value variety on the face. Because shading is such a valuble tool to give a shape three dimensional life, it can be inferred that value is the essence of shape which is the essence of form.
